Turf Supply & Install
Some lawns are past renovating. New turf is the fastest way to a lawn you're proud of — and the only service where the wow moment is the day it goes down.
- Turf matched to your yard's sun, soil and use
- Ground prepped and levelled so it roots fast
- Supply-and-lay, or supply-only for a DIY
Most turf that fails did not fail because of the turf
It failed because of what it was laid on. New turf has about two weeks of stored energy in it, and in that fortnight it either gets roots into the soil below or it does not. Laid onto compacted clay it cannot, so it browns off from underneath while the top still looks fine — and by the time you can see it, it is three weeks too late.
So the ground prep is the job. The turf is the easy part.
What proper prep is
Kill and remove what is there — laying over the top of existing grass or weeds just gives them somewhere to grow back through. Cultivate the surface so there is something soft for roots to enter. Level it off string lines, because whatever shape the base is in is the shape your lawn will be in forever. Then a starter feed, and lay it fresh.
On a Townsville clay we work gypsum through the profile at the same time. It changes how the clay holds together so it drains rather than setting, and it is the difference between turf that establishes and turf that sits there.
Laid tight, staggered like brickwork, and rolled or watered in so there is real contact between root and soil. An air gap under a slab is a dead slab.
Choosing a variety
Sun and shade decides most of it. Buffalo handles shade better than couch and takes traffic well; couch wants full sun and gives you the finest finish; zoysia sits between them and is slower growing, which means less mowing but slower repair.
How you use the lawn matters as much as how it looks. Dogs and kids want something that repairs itself quickly. A show lawn nobody walks on can be something finer.
We will tell you honestly if the variety you have your heart set on is wrong for the spot. A shade-loving lawn in full western sun is a slow expensive disappointment.
Worth knowing: a lot of what is sold locally as "NQ Buffalo" is actually carpet grass, which is a different plant with different needs. We will tell you what you are actually getting.
The first fortnight decides it
Water is the whole game. Keep it genuinely wet for the first two weeks — not damp, wet — then start backing off so the roots are pushed to chase moisture downward.
Stay off it. Every step in the first fortnight is pressure on roots that have not taken yet.
First mow when it resists a gentle tug, and take only the top off. Never more than a third of the leaf in one cut.
Doing it yourself
If you want to lay it, we will supply it and tell you exactly how to do it right, including the prep. Plenty of people lay their own and get a good result — it is heavy, hot work and entirely doable in a weekend on a normal front lawn.
Under a pallet, delivery is $150 and we batch it with other drops. A pallet or more and the farm delivers straight to you.
🔴 Do not order turf until the ground is ready. It is a living product with a shelf life of about a day in a Townsville summer, and turf that sits on a pallet in the sun is turf you have paid for and lost.
What it costs
Supply from $15 a square metre. Supplied and laid from $35 a square metre, which includes the prep — that is where the difference goes, and it is the part that decides whether the lawn is still there in a year.
Access changes the price on some jobs. If a pallet cannot get near the area, everything is barrowed, and that is real time. We will look before we quote.
- Anything we expect to land above $60/m² is quoted, not ranged — and we tell you why at the site visit, not on the invoice.
- The site visit sets the number. Access, what has to come out first and how tricky the shape is all move it.

Not happy? We come back and fix it — free.
We'd rather earn the next visit than argue about the last one. It's an extra promise on top of the rights you already have — our way of saying we back the work.
