What usually goes wrong, and what it costs you
A zone that has stopped running, a head that has sunk below grade and now waters the soil around itself, a head that will not pop up at all, a solenoid that has failed shut, a controller with a flat backup battery that lost its program, a leak underground you can only see as a green patch.
None of that announces itself. What you actually notice is a dry patch that will not come good no matter how long you run the system, and a water bill that has quietly gone up. By the time a lawn is showing stress, the fault has usually been there for months.
Even coverage matters more than more water
The temptation with a dry patch is to run the system longer. That does not fix uneven coverage — it just overwaters everywhere that was already fine, which wastes money and encourages shallow roots and disease.
The fix is getting the water landing evenly. If we suspect coverage rather than a broken part, we run a catch-cup test: cups across the lawn, the system on, and we measure what each part of it actually receives. That turns an argument about how long to run it into a number.
How a repair visit works
$149 covers us coming out and the first hour on site, anywhere within 15 km of Kirwan. That hour is usually enough to find the fault and fix a straightforward one.
Past the hour it is $135 an hour, and that is the same rate whether we are repairing or installing — there is no separate premium for one or the other, so there is nothing to argue about when the invoice arrives. Parts are on top.
The callout is charged whether or not the repair goes ahead, because the diagnosis is the work. If we find something that changes the price, we stop and tell you before we keep going.
New systems
A new system is designed around your water pressure and flow, not off a template. Pressure is the thing that decides how many heads can run on one zone, and getting that wrong is why so many systems water the driveway and miss the corners.
We work out the zones from the shape of the lawn and what the tap can actually deliver, then price it per zone. Backflow prevention is a separate line where the job needs it.
Before you call anyone out
Two free things worth trying. Check the controller has power and has not lost its program — a flat backup battery after a blackout is the single most common cause of a system that has simply stopped. And run each zone manually from the controller while you walk the lawn, so you know which zone is the problem before anyone charges you to find it.
If that fixes it, you have saved yourself a callout and we would rather you did. If it does not, you have told us exactly where to start.
What we do not do
We do not quote irrigation over the phone from a description. Water pressure, pipe size, what is already in the ground and how it was installed all change the answer, and a number given without seeing it is a number that changes later.
We come out, we find what is actually wrong, and you get the price before the work.
- If a fix we have done doesn't hold, we come back and put it right. No charge.
- A different fault in a different part of the system is a new job — the guarantee covers work that doesn't hold, not the next thing to go wrong.
