Two tiers, and the difference is the feeding

Tier 1 is the machine work. Two core aerations a year, a dethatch, a feed straight after every machine visit so the lawn comes back thicker after we open it up, your sprinklers checked at every visit, and a written report each time. Three trips a year. From $1,890, or $41 a week.

Tier 2 is all of that plus the feeding calendar — 4 granular feeds a year and 6 liquid applications, soil wetter and GoGo Juice mixed, sprayed every two months. Ten trips a year instead of three. From $2,790, or $61 a week.

The honest way to choose: Tier 1 fixes the soil, which is what most Townsville lawns actually need first. Tier 2 fixes the soil and then keeps feeding it, which is what makes the difference between a lawn that survives and a lawn people comment on. If you are not sure, start on Tier 1 — you can move up any time and we will not charge you to.

Why the machine work comes first

The soil under most Townsville lawns is hardsetting sodic clay. It compacts under foot traffic and its own weight, sheds water instead of absorbing it, and keeps the roots in the top couple of centimetres where they cook through the dry.

You can feed a lawn like that all year and get very little back, because the feed never reaches the roots — it sits on a hard surface and washes off in the next storm. That is why the coring is not an add-on to the feeding. It is the thing that makes the feeding work.

What the feeding calendar actually does

Four granular feeds a year, spread across the seasons, are the base — a slow release that keeps colour and growth through the wet and the dry rather than spiking and crashing.

The six liquid applications between them are soil wetter and GoGo Juice mixed, sprayed roughly every two months. The wetter changes how water behaves in a hydrophobic soil so it soaks in evenly instead of running to the low spots; the biological side feeds the soil rather than just the leaf. On a Townsville clay that combination is what stops the lawn drying out in patches.

A soil test every year, and a lab test if you pay for the year

Every tier includes a soil test annually, because feeding a lawn without knowing its pH is guessing. If the soil is too sour or too sweet, the grass physically cannot use the food you put on it — you can spend a year on fertiliser and get nothing for it.

Pay for the year up front and that is upgraded, free, to the full lab panel with a written plan off the results. That is a real $350 test, not a probe reading.

You get it in writing, every visit

A Lawn Health Report every time we are there: what we found, what we did, and what changed since last visit. Printed and handed over, or emailed if you are not home.

It is not a nicety. It is how you know what you are paying for, and it is how we know what the lawn has actually had done to it when someone new is standing on it.

What is not in it

Mowing. The Program is everything under and around the mow, not the mow itself — most people already have that sorted, and the ones who do not usually want it more often than a lawn plan runs.

Weed spraying. Weeds turn up for a reason, and spraying on a schedule treats the symptom while the cause keeps producing more. We look at what is causing them and tell you.
